Our Goal: to improve the health of under-served children and families in developing countries. We focus our efforts on diseases and medical conditions that cause significant illness and lowers the mortality rate of children in the Caribbean.
Our Strategy: we focus our health care efforts in two broad directions – child health and maternal and newborn health. We support a continuum of services for women and their children from preconception to the postpartum period. Antibiotics, sterile blades for cutting umbilical cords, drugs that prevent and treat postpartum hemorrhage, antenatal corticosteroids to accelerate lung maturation in the fetus, and best practices such as kangaroo mother care (i.e. exclusive breastfeeding and skin-to-skin contact to keep the baby warm), are some of the low-cost interventions that Children of the Caribbean Foundation will support across the Caribbean to reduce deaths of mothers and newborns.
